CHAPTER 6 Winner & Honorable Mentions

I should have this post done by now, but I can't stop watching Weather Channel updates. I am safe and dry in Georgia, but saying prayers for those to my north as they suffer through Hurricane Irene. I lived in New Orleans for 25 years so they have all my empathy; most of these areas have never experienced a hurricane.

Before I announce the winner and honorable mentions, I have three more design team updates to share with you. Amazingly all three share the same color scheme of black, white and red!

Creative Inspirations design team member Beth Norman of Sunflowers and Dragonflies contributed this lovely black and white card with some great pops of red! We always love it when our sponsor's team wants to come out and play! Love all the layers and the way the sponging has highlighted the main image.

Creative Inspirations design team member Holly of Glitter, Stamps, and Ink (Oh My!) contributed this lovely card with beautifully painted roses! It is amazing how versatile these paints are and I love the balance of black, white and red!

Our Altered Alice guest designer Jess Marin of My Scrap Diary has a hand-drawn art journal page, inspired by the scene in the castle garden in the Tim Burton movie. I love her interpretation of the 2, 5, and 7 cards that were doing the painting and the close-up face of the spade girl with her pot of paint! This was actually collaged together into a journal page from several different sketches. Red accents are, of course, garnet paint from Creative Inspirations!

And now for the moment you have all been waiting for! Of course the CI DT members were disqualified from the drawing, and all wonderland related entries received two chances at the draw.

I have to tell you, I think Amy will put her five free pots of paint to good use, because just look what she's been painting! I think this is our largest project to date. It started out like this, with just the one drawer painted with sky and stars:

But due to our challenge, two more drawers have literally received the royal treatment, LOL!  Look:

Most of the applied pieces are very sturdy as they are grungeboard. The coolest part? The bodies of the cards are on the bottom drawer, but the heads are on the middle drawer. So when you slide it open. . . yup, off with their heads!

Everything just works - color, composition, sentiment - on this great card by Denise of Lala's World! I love the way she has left one flower partially unpainted, it really looks like our cartoon card is affecting the change!

Bonnie McLain of Love, Light, Peace submitted this tag that is just full of paint, including on the book pages that she cut up to form her rose and the ribbon! I also love it that she including the original illustration for our challenge quote!

Bonnie also submitted a second project; remember you can enter as many times as you like as long as each project is on a separate post! Love the crepe ruffle at the bottom and the real paint brush!

The shadowbox from Di's Place is full of fun details, including roses painted red with Creative Inspirations paint.

Sylvia of Barnie's Baustelle submitted this altered wall hanging made from a recycled CD. After all the black, red and white of many submissions, the green and gold background to set off Alice and her paintbrush with the red roses was quite a relief! Love all the repeating circle motifs!

The club cards were painting the white roses red to avoid angering the Queen of Hearts, so your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to use PAINT on your creation! Of course you can paint it RED like the design team will be doing, but you can also use other colors. You need to tell us what item was painted and what technique you used!

Your Weekly Inspiration, a Farewell & a Hello!

This is Terri DeVine's last project for The Altered Alice. Terri is my BFF and crafting buddy, and I will always be thankful for all the moral support she gave me while starting up The Altered Alice!

Terri of DeVine Designs by Terri painted her embossed roses, scallop border and the die cut letters with the Garnet paint on this charming card. I love the strong graphic look of the bold red with the raised white lines surrounding each embossed petal!

The Alice is so sweet and Terri's coloring is fabulous, as always! Terri owns ALL the Copic colors, and she recently customized this Copic storage case, check it out!  Please stop by Terri's blog to give her a warm Altered Alice farewell!

Sandy Scholz of Stempelchaotin has been creating a series of mixed media altered file folders, which will ultimately become part of an album! Sandy has been taking an online workshop called Mixed Media Mahem and I have to say she must be a star student!

And now for my project (Lynne Phelps of Savvy Sisters Studio); my first attempt at an art journal page! The painted elements on this piece include a stenciled rose in the background in the process of being painted red, and acetate embossed with roses, then painted on the back side with the shimmering garnet paint.

Your Weekly Inspiration

Erin Leveille of Stamp til U Cramp has given us this wonderful, humorous take on painting the roses red! Erin has painted the recessed areas of the embossed roses with the Garnet Creative Inspirations paint. I love the way she trimmed out the roses and mounted them to a clear acetate card front. The little tag reading "You Paint My Roses Red" is a great sentiment for this fun card.

Inside Erin's card is this humorous illustration by David Frankland, which makes me want to laugh out loud! Be sure to stop by Erin's blog and let her know how clever she is!

Tracy/CuddlyBunny (with the help of My Guy no doubt) selflessly emptied many Guiness cans, which then gave up their lives to be recycled into these fantastic flowers! The flowers and leaves were die cut from the aluminum cans (aluminium to you Brits), spray painted with glossy enamel, and then the shimmering garnet paint was applied. That red rose just glows and I love the splatters on the one white flower and the leaves!  You can read all about it when you stop by to leave a comment on Tracy's blog, Not a Moment to Spare.

We can always count on Sue Roddis of JABBERWOCKY to add a touch of the macabre to any challenge and this one is a great example! The tumble of heart playing cards and the stenciled roses are just a backdrop to the drama. "Who's been painting my roses red?" screams the Queen as shimmering bloody red paint drips from a guilty hand! But. . . I'm having a Lady Macbeth flashback here, how about you?

Barbara Washington of Magic Delights has painted her shadowbox scene with Creative Inspiration paints. I think those cards are having a gay old time flinging the lovely garnet paint about! The image is a freebie from an online coloring book sight - visit Barbara's blog to get the link! They are a great source of fun, free digital images.

Barbara's second item is this fun altered R: R for Roses, R for Red! She has included the three cards that actually painted the rose trees as well as the Tenniel illustrations of the scene and the Queen. I love the roses both white and with the garnet red paint! Your Weekly Inspiration


First, I would like to introduce the newest member of our design team, Donna Mundinger of Popsicle Toes! Please extend a warm welcome to Donna, I think she will add her own twist to our Altered Alice story!

Many of you are familiar with Donna's absolute mastery of the Cricut design software, and this altered wooden frame is no exception! I love this image of the Queen of Hearts in a towering rage! The ruff being made up of playing cards is so much fun. The letters are embossed grungeboard that has been painted with Creative Inspirations Garnet red paint, it adds a lot of shimmer and dimension!

Donna made the white flowers herself, and it looks like the Queen herself may start painting them red right now if someone doesn't hop to it! Love the attached paintbrush, now I know what to do with some of my cheap paintbrushes that are better for adding bristles to projects rather than painting them!  Please drop by Popsicle Toes to welcome Donna to the team plus there are many more pictures when you get there!

Tracy Evans made this charming double-pocket tag! All the red accents are Creative Inspirations paint in Garnet. I love this old PSX stamp about six impossible things before breakfast, and I I also see Wonderland Collage from Artistic Outpost, sponsor of an earlier challenge!

I love it that the tag holds tags in its pockets, only now they are round, such fun!

Tracy Evan's coordinating card repeats these circular motifs. The roses were painted with the Garnet shimmer paint. I love the way the circular masking echoes the circular tags! 

Tracy also created this card that illustrates this month's quote, using a fun illustration. The roses are of course painted!

Retta Fox of Foxy's Weblog created four projects this month, and I am completely in love with this "Paint it RED" art journal page. Be sure to click to enlarge so you can read the writing; we are encouraged to be brave and face the Queen of Hearts in our own lives! And notice the brush wired to the right margin!  This is really making me want to stretch my comfort zone and give art journaling a try!

Next, Retta has decorated this watch case with the tea party scene with red painted touches, and there are the pieces of an actual watch rattling around inside! Retta has really leveraged the depth of the case by having some of the images on the glass cover and others in the back of the recessed pocket watch case!

Did you know Creative Inspiration paint can be used on non-porous surfaces? This brilliant tea bag holder is so charming with the Mad Hatter running to his tea!
